The future development of aviation will be largely shaped by the transition towards more climate-friendly propulsion technologies. In particular, sustainable aviation fuels, hydrogen, and electric propulsion systems are at the center of various technological and political strategies. As three of the world's largest economies, Germany, the United States, and China are pursuing different approaches to advancing the transformation of the aviation sector. In addition to political and regulatory frameworks, industrial policy interests and the strategic orientation of the aviation industry play a crucial role.
The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to systematically examine and compare the different strategies for the future of aviation. This includes analyzing national and European strategy documents, government support measures, and regulatory frameworks, as well as the technological development strategies pursued by the aviation industry in each country. Based on a methodologically sound comparative framework, key similarities and differences will be identified, along with potential trade-offs between climate protection, technological development, and international competitiveness. Finally, the different strategic approaches will be critically evaluated, and potential implications for the future development of aviation will be derived.
