The trainees at TU Braunschweig want to shape the introduction of new trainees with their AHA project "Trainees help Trainees". Orientation and community are at the heart of the idea. On the introduction days in August 2018, for example, a rally was organised and designed by the trainees themselves for the first time. In addition, the trainees would like to set up a regulars' table to promote exchange, especially across occupational groups. The project is being carried out with the support of the Sandbox and Department 13 - Health and Safety Management and in close cooperation with the trainers, the training coordinators and the youth and trainee representatives. Another milestone in the project was the evaluation workshop on 6 November 2018, where this year's induction days were assessed and suggestions for improvement for the coming year were collected and evaluated.
Result for TU Braunschweig: Appreciative start for new trainees at TU Braunschweig
From October 2014 to June 2015, the TU Braunschweig was given the opportunity to participate in the project “Health Promotion at German Universities — Use of Mentors” by HIS-Hochschulentwicklung (HIS-HE) in cooperation with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK).
The aim of the project was to evaluate the reflection and development tool developed by experts from six selected higher education institutions for qualitative higher education-related location assessment with interested higher education institutions. To this end, the experts from these HEIs were placed at the side of the project HEIs as mentors. It was left up to the mentors and the HEIs to be supported to decide how they wanted to use the advisory service. In quality-oriented counselling interviews, we were supported in terms of content and, together with our working group Network Health, were able to carry out a solid stocktaking with the help of the reflection and development tool and identify development potential. From this, key topics were derived which will be worked on in a targeted manner over the next two years.
In addition, the focus was on exchange and networking.
Result for the TU Braunschweig: Assessment of the status of occupational health management
In 2012, the TU Braunschweig successfully applied to become a model service of the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport. In this context, we received free counselling by certified external work coping coaches for a defined target group.
The aim of the project was to maintain the ability to work until retirement and to promote the health and well-being of the employees at work. The primary target group was the decentralised administrative staff in the institutes and central facilities of the TU Braunschweig. They were offered a special personal and confidential counselling service:
The overall staff council and the university management supported the project.
Result for the TU Braunschweig: Establishment of the counselling service
Occupational health management was launched in 2007 as a 2-year pilot project at the TU Braunschweig. The TK initiated the occupational health management and was also heavily involved in the project in terms of personnel.
Numerous staff members from the academic institutions and the administration have also made themselves available to "fill this extensive project with life".
In the mid-term review workshop, the activities to date and the measures already implemented by all project participants were presented. Special thanks also go to the former full-time Vice-President, Mr. Rainer Kölsch, who took time for this matter despite his numerous appointments. The topic-oriented projects have contributed decisively to improved networking in the working group and to the positioning of the topic "OHM at the TU BS".
From the point of view of the project participants, this first joint exchange of experience between the project groups, the working group and the steering committee was described as very successful. This first milestone made it very clear how intensively the issues of OHM have been advanced in the respective areas in the past months.
