Hydrofluoric acid

Hydrogen fluoride / hydrofluoric acid

Accidents with hydrogen fluoride / hydrofluoric acid can lead to very serious or fatal injuries. Employees must be instructed before starting work with hydrofluoric acid for the first time and regularly once a year.

Eye injuries must be prevented by adequate protective measures (especially front sashes, safety goggles,
safety screens / visors)!

Special features of hydrofluoric acid burns are,

  • that typical acid effects on the skin can be avoided and
  • complaints due to hydrofluoric acid burns may occur later.

Most important are the first aid measures at the scene of the accident:

  • Rinse the skin, apply calcium gluconate gel to the skin (and let it take effect) - alternating with water rinsing.
  • Calcium gluconate gel is only suitable for use on the skin.
