Why does the climate change the seas and coasts?

Through climate change, sea level is slowly rising. Therefore, storm surges can flood the coasts more heavily. Salt marshes in front of grass dikes slow down the waves. Sand dunes also protect us; on them, beach grass grows. Its strong roots hold the sand firmly so that the dunes are not so easily carried away by wind or water. Waves and wind can also do good. They help us generate electricity. For that, wind turbines are built at sea. In the lecture, we clarify the questions: How can we protect ourselves from storm surges? How can we use wind at sea? And how does the habitat of animals in the sea change?

What influence does climate change have on our life in the city?

More and more people live in cities. They go by bus to school or by car to work. They live in new houses and buy things that were partly transported through half the world to a shop around the corner. All that contributes to climate change and it is getting hotter and hotter in the cities. Maybe you too have already experienced super-hot summers? Or do you know winters without snow? In the lecture we find out why cities are particularly affected by climate change and how trees and parks can make cities cooler and more beautiful again. Which further ideas are there to make cities more livable again even in the summer? You will find that out in the lecture.

Why is soil a climate superhero?

Have you ever dug in a garden or discovered an earthworm? Beneath your feet lies a real superhero: soil! It stores water like a sponge, absorbs harmful gases from the air, and makes sure that plants can grow. In this way, it helps people, animals, and our climate. But what happens when the soil becomes sick? In the lecture, we find out why soil is so important and how we can protect it. Because without healthy soil, there would be no food and no clean air!
