As part of the designated office for Digitalization and Sustainability, we serve as an interface between employees, students, and committed initiatives, creating spaces for exchange, networking, and collaboration. In addition, we are actively involved in regional and national networks and support research projects related to sustainability.
Get to know the people behind the Green Office and discover our network of initiatives and sustainability actors at TU Braunschweig and beyond.
Our team is a "young" team – young because the Green Office was established at TU Braunschweig in 2021. Originating from an idea developed by the AStA department for Ecology and Sustainability, the Green Office was initially established as a student-led project, laying an important foundation for the university’s sustainability strategy. Since 2024, our team consists of three permanent staff members and – depending on the project – five to seven student assistants. The Green Office is part of the designated office Digital Transformation and Sustainability.

The Green Office supports the work of the Sustainability Comittee in an advisory role. The Committee supports the university leadership and the various units of TU Braunschweig in firmly anchoring and continuously developing sustainability across management and governance, research, and teaching at a strategic level. It also helps guide processes and initiatives that advance the university’s sustainability goals, especially in the areas of climate protection and the responsible use of resources.
The network "HochNiNa" has existed since 2018. Its aim is to promote exchange and collaboration among those responsible for and appointed to sustainability at higher education institutions in Lower Saxony, and to give them a joint voice in order to further advance sustainability at the state’s universities. As part of HochNiNa, the Green Office takes the lead in the Working Group on Education for Sustainable Development.
The Green Office supports the research project LENKER, which focuses on the solution-oriented development of new concepts to sustain motivation for cycling. The project examines why young people between the ages of 16 and 29 cycle less during key life transitions—such as starting university or a career, moving house, or obtaining a driver’s licence. The aim is to develop practical, target-group-specific measures that sustainably strengthen the motivation to cycle. Learn more.
The Recycling Paper Working Group supports TU Braunschweig’s application for the Paper Atlas, a nationwide competition for sustainable paper procurement. TU Braunschweig has been participating since 2022, setting an example for the use of Blue Angel-certified recycled paper. The aim is to make resource conservation visible and to make paper consumption at the university more sustainable.
TU Braunschweig has been recognized as a Fairtrade University, demonstrating its commitment to fairer global trade. In collaboration with the Green Office and student initiatives, fair products are promoted on campus, events are organized, and awareness of global justice is strengthened. The application is based on five criteria, including the integration of fair-trade products into everyday university life and active public outreach. Students play an active role in this process, advocating for sustainable supply chains and intergenerational justice.
