SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals

The Executive Board of TU Braunschweig (Kopie 1)

Das Präsidium und SDG 17

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were drawn up by the United Nations in 2015 and formulate the goals for sustainable development for all countries in the world by 2030.

With our SDG ambassador program, we want to show who at TU Braunschweig is committed to these goals in concrete terms and on a daily basis. Today we would like to introduce you to the Executive Board of TU Braunschweig. Together, you are committed to Goal 17 and have answered a few questions for us.

How does your work relate to this SDG?

At TU Braunschweig, sustainability is a guiding paradigm in all performance dimensions and cross-sectional areas of strategic university development. We take sustainability aspects into account in everything we plan and do. As the Executive Board, we stand for partnerships, cooperation and collaboration on the common sustainability goals with SDG 17 - both as an entire university and as part of a global community.

How did you become interested in this topic and where did your interest come from? What made you commit to this SDG?

SDG 17 “Global Partnerships for the Goals” addresses various central goals of our university:

Internationalization - Young people from many different countries study at TU Braunschweig. We are proud of our international cooperation in research and our strategic partnerships with the Universities of Tampere, Strathclyde, Rhode Island and UNAM in Mexico. Digitalization - is an essential prerequisite for strengthening (global) cooperation, equal opportunities and participation and for innovative solutions to global challenges in times of climate change, resource scarcity and social inequality. We use digitalization to teach and research more sustainably and to strengthen global cooperation. Knowledge and technology transfer - The exchange of knowledge, technologies and, in particular, ideas is an important prerequisite for tackling current and future complex challenges. Developments and issues of global proportions can increasingly rarely be solved solely technically, locally and from individual specialist areas. With our focus on transfer and knowledge exchange, we take into account the multidimensionality, globality and the need to involve as many social stakeholders as possible. Equal opportunities and diversity - We see ourselves as an open-minded, inclusive university that is aware of its global responsibility. This results in a clear commitment to diversity and democracy - on a large and small scale, in relation to society and the university.

SDG 17 symbolizes the Executive Board's goal of having an integrating effect on the university and society in order to take as many people as possible along on the path to greater sustainability.
