For the third time, the ‘International Summer School: Advanced Sustainable Aviation Technologies 2025’ took place from 1 to 12 September – a joint project of the SE²A Cluster of Excellence and the International House at TU Braunschweig. Around 15 participants from all over the world came together first online and then on site in Braunschweig to learn more about sustainable aviation, network and exchange ideas. The now well-established one-week programme, consisting of 20 online lectures by scientists from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Leibniz University Hannover and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), as well as experts from industry such as Airbus and Lufthansa, offered a comprehensive introduction to the topic of sustainable aviation.
During the second week in Braunschweig, participants were able to expand their knowledge with further lectures, intensive group work and a wide-ranging supporting programme: a tour of Hannover Airport with a lecture by CEO Dr Martin Roll, a visit to Aerodata AG and the SE²A institutes at the Campus Braunschweig Research Airport (IFAS, ISM, IFL).
But it wasn't just technical matters on the agenda- social activities were also important, given that some participants had travelled thousands of kilometres to attend. A guided tour of Braunschweig's beautiful city centre was therefore a must! A barbecue on Thursday evening provided an additional opportunity to network before Friday rolled around and it was time for presentations! The results of the week were presented in groups and rewarded with a certificate.
The SE²A managing team would like to express its sincere thanks to all supporters and, of course, to the participants for two exciting weeks full of exchange!
About the International Summer School: Advanced Sustainable Aviation Technologies
The Summer School is a joint project of the International House at TU Braunschweig and the SE²A Cluster of Excellence. Students from Germany and abroad can gain insights into both research and current discourse. A broad supporting programme rounds off the offering. One of the aims of the Summer School is to inspire young students to take an interest in all topics related to sustainable and energy-efficient aviation and to motivate them to pursue a scientific career in this field.
