First BRICS PhD Workshop – Connecting Young Researchers Across Disciplines

On 5 October 2026, BRICS hosted its first PhD Workshop, bringing together doctoral researchers from different research groups, scientific disciplines and partner institutions. The workshop aimed to strengthen connections within the PhD community, encourage interdisciplinary exchange and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Following a welcome by BRICS Speaker Melanie Brinkmann, participants presented their research in short Flash Talks, highlighting the broad range of scientific topics and expertise within the BRICS community. A lively poster session offered further opportunities to discuss projects, identify shared research interests and establish new connections across disciplines.

In the afternoon, participants joined interactive discussions focusing on three key topics: Research Collaboration & Networking, Skills, Training & Professional Development, and Community Building & Outreach. Together, they developed ideas and suggestions for strengthening scientific exchange, supporting professional development and building a more connected PhD community.

The workshop marked an important first step towards establishing a strong and active PhD network.

A big thank you to all participants for their enthusiasm, inspiring contributions and engaging discussions!
