From Vision to Action: Expanding PVZ for the Next Decade

Following our recent strategy meeting of the PVZ in Drübeck, we are now moving from long-term vision to concrete priorities. Our focus: strategically expanding and strengthening PVZ at TU Braunschweig over the next 10 years.

Here is how we are structuring this ambition:

 1. Expanding and Deepening Partnerships

A key priority is broadening our network while ensuring sustainable coordination and long-term relationship management.

Industry & Applied Research

  • Strengthening industry partnerships
  • Expanding collaboration with non-university research institutions (such as Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt – PTB)
  • Building connections with clinics

International Collaborations

  • Expansion of EU projects and exchange formats
  • Development of international university partnerships
  • SPhERe: new international university cooperation (currently in planning)

Academic Networks

  • Cooperation with other universities (including potential external locations)
  • Core Research Area initiatives, including local collaborations (Braunschweig Integrated Centre of Systems Biology – BRICS)
  • Strengthening ties with Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology – LENA
  • Structured alumni networks and alumni events

Partnership growth will be accompanied by clear coordination structures and active relationship maintenance — because networks only create value when they are cultivated strategically.

2. Advancing Research Focus

We aim to sharpen and further develop our research profile:

  • Consolidating core research areas
  • Encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and connections
  • Increasing international visibility
  • Linking research strengths with strategic partnerships

3. Promoting Young Talent

Sustainable excellence requires systematic talent development at every stage:

  • Early engagement with schools
  • Stronger integration of undergraduate and graduate students into research and industry
  • Targeted support for doctoral candidates
  • Career development opportunities for postdocs
  • Providing access to office and lab facilities for start-ups in pharmaceutical engineering research

Creating structured pathways from early interest to research leadership is a central pillar of our long-term strategy.

4. Knowledge Exchange & Visibility

To strengthen dialogue between academia and practice:

  • Lecture series with external partners (industry & non-university institutions)
  • Strategic public relations and positioning, active science communication
  • Increased visibility of PVZ activities at regional, national, and international levels

The next decade is not just about growth — it is about strategic, connected, and sustainable development.

We look forward to shaping this journey together with our partners, colleagues, and future talents.
