Grid Generation

Grid Generation at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics with

GRIDGEN/POINTWISE and CENTAUR

Both GRIDGEN and CENTAUR utilize a hybrid technique combining the advantages of two different approaches, generation of structured (hexahedral elements) and unstructed (tetrahedral elements) meshes, using prismatic, hexahedral, pyramidal and tetrahedral cells.

Prismatic and hexahedral cells are used in areas of high gradients and tetrahedral cells elsewhere in order to save mesh size.

The transition between the prismatic to tetrahedral is achieved using pyramidal or anisotropic elements. The quality and density of the mesh is intrinsic to obtained accuracy of the CFD results.
