On July 17, 2025, around 190 students from the Bachelor's degree programs in Computer Science, Business Informatics, and Information Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig presented the results of this year's Software Development Project at the “Young Software Developers' Day.” A jury of experts from academia, industry, and the student body evaluated the projects and awarded prizes to the three best teams.
Third place went to the Institute for Application Security for their project, "We Know Where Your Car Is Driving (Group 0)." The student team demonstrated how to read sensors remotely with minimal hardware and programming knowledge to collect information about passing vehicles.
Second place went to the Institute for Operating Systems and Computer Networking — Department of Reliable System Software for the project "RustyBox: A Subset of BusyBox in Rust." This group of students reimplemented parts of the BusyBox system software in the Rust programming language, which is considered more modern and secure than the previously used C language.
The Institute for Operating Systems and Computer Networks — Department of Algorithmics took first place with the project "Optimization Games — PlanBee." For this project, the students created a computer game about the strategic positioning of beehives to illustrate the complexity of a well-known mathematical optimization problem.
Radio Okerwelle reported on the “Day of Young Software Developers 2025” and captured the impressions of the event in a radio report. Participants describe their impressions and provide insights into the projects and the event.
