Comet Formation Workshop 2022

June 7th - 10th, 2022 at TU Braunschweig, Germany

Komet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

The scope of this workshop is to bring together experts from different fields to discuss and to better understand and constrain comet-formation and evolution models. Different formation scenarios of planetesimals/cometesimals from protoplanetary dust/ice will be debated, especially the streaming instability followed by a gentle gravitational collapse as well as the hierarchical growth model. After formation, several evolutionary processes may alter these planetesimals, like collisions, radiogenic heating or insolation. We intend to address formation and evolution together and will discuss, which (measurable) properties are expected for the different possible pathways and whether (and how) we can constrain the formation/evolution processes by observations of comets.
