Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nils Tippkötter has headed the Institute of Bioprocess Engineering (ibvt) at the Technical University of Braunschweig since October 2026. His research combines fundamental science with the development and scaling of biotechnological processes—from the laboratory through the technical center and pilot scales to industrial application. His research focuses on sustainable bioprocesses, biorefinery technologies, and the material utilization of renewable raw materials and biogenic residues. His expertise lies in cascading enzymatic and microbial material conversion, decentralized processing of lignocellulosic biomass, and the development of innovative reaction and separation processes. Additional research areas include bioelectrochemical processes and the use of functionalized superparamagnetic particles in biotechnological applications. Methodologically, the focus is on experimental bioprocess development, process analytics, multivariate data analysis, and model-based process optimization. The goal is to translate new scientific findings into high-performance, resource-efficient, and industrially viable bioprocesses.
