Student Field Trip 2026

From 26 May to 29 May 2026, the Institute of Building Construction and Timber Structures (IBHolz) organised a three-day field trip.

As part of the field trip week in the 2026 summer semester, we from IBHolz travelled to southern Germany together with the Institute of Building Physics at Leibniz University Hannover to gain a wide range of insights into timber construction.

The programme included visits to Ante Holz (sawmill), Schaffitzel Holzindustrie, SWG Schraubenwerk, müllerblaustein Holzbauwerke, the Materials Testing Institute at the University of Stuttgart and Egger Holzwerkstoffe. Particular highlights included the loading of a prefabricated bridge at Schaffitzel and the ‘assembly line production’ of timber building modules at müllerblaustein.

As well as the professional insights, we also enjoyed lovely evenings with good food in Künzelsau, Ulm and Würzburg and had great fun on lively journeys in our 9-seater ‘Ostwind’.

A special thank you goes to all the organisers and companies who welcomed us so warmly and provided us with so much information. We look back on a wonderful time.
