Wood and sustainability

LIGNA 2025

The world’s leading trade fair for the woodworking and wood-processing industries, LIGNA, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and introduced a new format: LIGNA.Circular. In Hall 12, this new format was devoted to the circular transformation of the woodworking and wood-processing sectors. Under the motto “Thinking in Circles,” the focus was on sustainable practices and circularity.

IBHolz and the Fraunhofer WKI participated in the event with the themed zones “Wood-Based Materials and Recycling” and “Circular Economy in Timber Construction,” as well as with presentations and discussions on the LIGNA.Stage. The acting institute director of the Fraunhofer WKI, Professor Raoul Klingner, enriched the “Wind of Change” session on May 28. In his keynote address, Mr. Klingner addressed the challenges from the perspective of the wood-based materials industry. On behalf of IBHolz, Dr. Norbert Rüther presented two research projects on May 29 that tackle key questions of the circular economy in timber construction. Fraunhofer WKI is also involved in both projects.
