The IBB is particularly responsible for teaching, research and training in construction business administration, construction management and construction process engineering. With these teaching and research contents as well as further education offers, the IBB stands at an interface between the constructional-planning specialist areas of engineering and the generally business-oriented specialist areas of economics. Construction management is also a branch of business administration - albeit with its own distinct accents. The tasks include research work in the following areas of construction management:

• Digitization of processes in construction (Building Information Modeling, Design and Build 4.0)
• Alternative forms of contracting and project execution (design-build, partnering, GMP, lean construction)
• Partnership-based design of the planning and realization phases of construction projects
• (Avoidance of) construction process disruptions
• Modular and serial construction
