Habitat in urban waters

[Institut für Geoökologie, Abteilung USA]

The German government is supporting the ‘Hamburg, deine Flussnatur’ (Hamburg, your river nature) project with €17 million. Present at the handover of the funding approval to the Elbe Foundation was PhD student Christine Schottmüller from the IGÖ's Landscape Ecology Working Group (Future Urban Coastlines Junior Research Group). The SpundwandQuartier (sheet pile wall quarter), developed in collaboration with ITE and LWI, was presented there. It supplements existing sheet pile walls on riverbanks with functional, 3D-printed habitat structures, transforming monotonous steel walls into vibrant ecological spaces.
