On Saturday (14 June), a cycling excursion on the topic of climate change adaptation took place in Braunschweig as part of the COABS project. In the COABS project, the IGÖ has worked on a report on the consequences and risks of climate change in recent years and contributed intensively to the development of an integrated portfolio of measures.

On Saturday, the focus was on what concrete steps towards climate change adaptation could look like and what obstacles still need to be overcome. For example, while there is potential for greening in many places in the city, such as the backyard of the city's sustainability centre (Fig. 2), heterogeneous ownership, the need for car parking spaces and various concerns of residents pose a major challenge.

The projects presented were very diverse - from the greening of a day-care centre site and the creation of a ‘summer street’ to horticultural experiments at the Walldorf School and help for the homeless in the hot summer months.

Finally, there was information on the planned remodelling of a section of road in Weststadt in accordance with climate change adaptation criteria.
