Kick-Off Event: Ethics-Research-Responsibility - Freedom, Security and Responsibility of Research in Times of Radical Change
Target group: Scientists of the TU Braunschweig
Place: Architecture Pavilion
When: 28.05.2025, 12:00-14:00
The question of the relationship between freedom, security and responsibility in research is currently being raised in the face of radical upheavals. From the corona pandemic to the war in Ukraine and numerous other national, international and geopolitical crises, science is caught between scientific freedom and research security as well as between self-regulation and state regulation. At the same time, measures to promote synergies between civil and military research are becoming increasingly important.
International scientific cooperation is changing and brings with it new challenges. A security architecture for research institutions could help to minimize risks from external actors, cyberattacks and certain behaviours. Against this background, we will discuss current developments and risks, existing instruments, guidelines, experiences, measures and strategies as well as open questions with high-ranking experts at the planned event on security-relevant research. Other formats are also planned to continue the dialog and incorporate different perspectives and best practices.
Agenda
Participation in the event is free of charge; please register briefly by e-mail via Ethik-Kick-Off.
In the run-up to the event, we are asking interested parties to take part in our short survey tool to share their perspectives and experiences on the ethical and safety-related aspects of their work. The survey is anonymous and is intended, among other things, to collect questions for in-depth discussion.
