Discover the world outside the lecture with us! In addition to our lectures, we offer exciting excursions that take place during the excursion week in the summer semester as well as during the lecture periods. These excursions allow you to deepen your theoretical knowledge through real-life application scenarios and to experience the diverse aspects of the aviation industry and engineering world at first hand.
How is an airplane built—from the initial design concept to the finished fuselage? This question was answered firsthand during this year’s two-day field trip for the course “Aircraft Structures”. Students visited the Airbus facilities in Bremen and Hamburg and were able to witness the manufacturing process of a modern commercial aircraft in person. In Hamburg, a presentation on the A350 freighter program and a discussion with a recruiter rounded out the program, offering exciting insights into career opportunities at Airbus.
As part of the Composites lecture 'Grundlagen der Faserverbundwerkstoffe' at IFL - Institut für Flugzeugbau und Leichtbau, a group of students went to the centre of composites expertise in Germany, to the city of Stade within the 'CFRP valley'.
After touring the IFL Stade offices and labs at the inter-university research cooperation HPCFK, the students were able to experience the entire production process of vertical fins made from CFRP during a tour through the Airbus manufacturing plant in Stade. To end the day and discuss the impressions, the whole group sat together and had a small Pizzaparty.
