School Garden Day 2013

Background

At the 1st Lower Saxony School Garden Day at the School Biology Centre in Hanover on 24 September 2012, the organisers and participants jointly initiated the idea of holding regular School Garden Days at various locations in Lower Saxony in the future. The TU Braunschweig was chosen to organise the second event in this series. The 2nd Lower Saxony School Garden Day on 9 September 2013, which is recognised as an advanced training and conference event by the Ministry of Education, was organised by the Biology and Didactics of Biology Department of the IFdN and took place on the North Campus of the TU. More than 150 teachers from all over Lower Saxony visited the wide range of offers in the IFdN's institute building, in the lecture hall building BI 84 as well as in the seminar building BI 85 and of course also in the school and research garden of the Department of Biology and Didactics of Biology. In addition to the contributors on campus, excursions at the end of the day complemented this offer.

Perspectives

The Federal Working Group for School Gardens (BundesArbeitsGemeinschaft Schulgarten, Landesgruppe Niedersachsen), the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and many committed school garden activists from various institutions support the Lower Saxony School Garden Days. In the future and in the long term, they will continue to provide a regular forum for teachers from all schools in Lower Saxony to meet at least once a year to exchange ideas on the subject of school gardens and to take part in special further training courses. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to announce the 3rd Lower Saxony School Garden Day, which will take place on Monday 20 October 2014 in the Autostadt Wolfsburg.

Complete programme and pictures
