Post-Doctorate Research Associate

My research focuses on trace metal cycling, accumulation, and transformation. There is a specific interest in studying mercury-Hg biogeochemical processes in the environment as well as Hg metabolic fates in vivo, by Hg speciation and isotopic composition. I have studied Hg contaminated pathways in various aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, including investigation of Hg uptake and transport between paddy soil and rice seeds in the Wanshan Hg mining area (China); studying the impact of pelagic redoxclines on methyl-Hg formation in Central Baltic Sea (Sweden); assessing industrial and munition Hg pollution in the Southwest Baltic Sea (Germany); tracking Hg transportation and transformation processes in a coastal zone with its adjacent river in the vicinity of a chlor-alkali plant (Cuba). In addition, a laboratory-based Hg contamination experiment using model fish (Danio rerio) was carried out, to understand Hg metabolic pathways and induced toxicological response. Currently, I am working on the EMOSGROW project, which aims to develop and implement quantitative method to monitor gaseous Hg0 concentrations by Hg passive air sampler (MerPAS), further to its application on evaluating elemental Hg outgassing from soil-groundwater systems.
