Authored by Colin Schulz, David Bendig, Antonio Bräunche, and Bastian Kindermann , the article provides new insights into how the intensity of AI adoption in firms impacts employee job satisfaction.
The study reveals that the relationship is not linear but follows an inverted U-shape. Moderate AI usage increases satisfaction by relieving employees of routine tasks ("enrichment") , whereas excessive adoption has a negative impact due to a loss of autonomy and increasing complexity ("impairment"). Of particular interest: The impact of this dynamic is significantly influenced by strategic orientation. A distinct "exploration orientation" allows companies to implement higher levels of AI without jeopardizing satisfaction , while strict data governance mechanisms tend to attenuate the effects.
