- For researchers from developing and emerging countries
With the Georg Forster Research Fellowships for postdocs and experienced researchers, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables exceptionally qualified scientists from all disciplines in developing and emerging countries (except China and India; see detailed list of program countries) to conduct long-term research stays in Germany. The planned research project must address issues that are highly relevant to the sustainable development of the applicant's country or region of origin and contribute to the achievement of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Postdocs can apply for a funding period of 6-24 months up to four years after completing their doctorate, while experienced researchers can apply for a funding period of 6-18 months up to twelve years after completing their doctorate. Short-term study or conference trips and training stays are not eligible for funding.
The research grant program is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The research project will be carried out in cooperation with academic hosts at research institutions in Germany. Applicants choose their own independent research project and their hosts in Germany themselves. Details of the research project, including information on the planned duration of the scholarship and, if applicable, the distribution of stays, must be agreed with the intended host before submitting the application.
