Firewall

Firewall

[Translate to English:]

The firewall is a security mechanism designed to protect the campus network from unauthorized access and potential threats. The firewall monitors traffic between the University's internal network and the external Internet and controls access to specific services, ports, and protocols. It implements various security policies and rules to block or filter potentially harmful traffic. The Gauss IT Center provides all institutes and central facilities with their own firewalls within the central firewall infrastructure within the scope of technical realization possibilities. You can choose between two different support models.

  • As a managed firewall, you can have your institute firewall managed by us. Changes are commissioned by you as the DP coordinator and activated on the firewall after consultation with you. We will provide you with the current set of firewall rules for review at any time upon request. As a rule, we will process your requests for rule changes within 48 working days at the latest, usually even within a few hours.
  • As a Self Managed Firewall you can administer the entire firewall yourself as the DP coordinator of your institute. In this case we will only prepare the firewall for operation in your network area and put it into operation with a simple standardized rule set after consultation with you.
