Laboratories

Laboratories in aeronautical and astronautical science

Laboratories for Bachelor-, Master- and Diploma-Students are offered in form of a cooperation of several research-institutes in aeronautical and astronautical science of the TU Braunschweig. Its intention is to provide profound basics in experimental methodology as well as the evaluation and interpretation of the found data. To do so, a variety of aeronautical and astronautical-related experiments are ready to be chosen by the students. It's mandatory for each student to enroll for the experiments at the beginning of the semester - see further information on your specified laboratory - and to gather all the found information in a scientific lab-report. The course-language (experiment and for the lab-report) is german.

The following laboratories are for different groups of students:

Laboratory for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) students (dt.: Kompetenzfeldlabor)

Basics Laboratory for diploma students of aeronautical and astronautical science

Advanced Laboratory for Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Laboratory for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) students (dt.: Kompetenzfeldlabor)

This Lab is designed for Bachelor students of aeronautical and astronautical Science and takes place every year's summer term. It consists of a total of six experiments offered by the different institutes of aeronautical and astronautical science of the Technical University. In the first week of summer term, there's a kick-off meeting (participation is mandatory for students who want to enroll for the lab) where students must enroll themselves personally and bindingly for the participation in three of the offered experiments.

The organisation of the Laboratory for Bachelor students of aeronautical and astronautical science in summer 2018 is conducted by the institute of Aircraft Design and Lightweight Structures. Contact person is M.Sc. Seunghee Ko (phone: 391-9924). The kick-off meeting is on Tuesday, 9th April 2019 from 10:30am to 12:00am in HB 35.1. Further and latest information for application and participation can be found in this pdf (german).

Basics Laboratory

The Basics-Lab was part of the diploma in aeronautical and astronautical science. Since this subject is about to run out, the current wintersemester is the last term, students were able to enrol for it. For the students of Bachelor and Master of aeronautical and astronautical Science, it is replaced by the Laboratory for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and the Advanced Laboratory for Master of Science (M.Sc.), respectively. In case you have further questions on the Basics Laboratory, please contact Dr.-Ing. Torsten Fabel (phone: 391-9906).

Advanced Laboratory

The advanced laboratory is designed for Master of Science- and Diploma-students who already gathered basic experience in laboratory-work through participation in the Basics Laboratory or the Laboratory for Bachelor of Science students, respectively. It consists of a series of five experiments deeply related now to the specific phenomena of aircraft design and lightweight structures. The five different experiments are spread over the summer term with a kick-off meeting for each of them. At the end of term, the students will have to pass a colloquium. In these brief oral exams, they are asked to show profound understanding of experimental research as well as deep understanding in the basic mechanical phenomena. Participation on the kick-off meetings as well as the colloquium is mandatory for enrolled students. Detailed information on the five different experiments can be found in this pdf (german).

The organisation of the Advanced Laboratory for Master- and diploma-students of aeronautical and astronautical science in summer 2020 is conducted by the institute of aircraft design and lightweight structures (IFL). The schedule for the preliminary discussion of the experiments can be found in Termine Fachlabor (pdf, 177 KByte) (german). Contact person is Dr.-Ing. T. Fabel (phone: 391-9906).The kick-off meeting is on Wednesday, 22nd April 2022 from 1:15pm to 2:45pm in HB 35.1.
