The Interdisziplinäres Forschungsmodul (IFM) in the Master's program is designed to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of process engineering. The interdisciplinarity is particularly evident through the logical networking of different areas of specialization within the laboratory. For this purpose, practical experiments are to be carried out in three different institutes; the experiments are linked thematically.
With this interdisciplinary research module, students will learn about the value chain from gene to product. Therefore, the module is divided into three subsections:
Experiment part 1 at the Institute of Biochemical Engineering (ibvt)
Content: Production of an intracellular enzyme with the genetically modified bacterium E. coli
Supervisors: David Lammers, Rochus Jonas
Experiment part 2 at the Institute for Particle Technology (iPAT)
Content: Development of a cell disruption method and separation of cell fragments
Supervisors: Daniel Jupke, Stephanie Michel
Experiment part 3 at the Institute of Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering (ICTV)
Content: Enzyme immobilization, production, and purification of the product isomaltose
Supervisors: Felicitas Aselmeyer, Anke Schmidt-Radeleff
Registration is done by e-mail to David Lammers (d.lammers@tu-braunschweig.de). Please state your name, subject of study (+ semester) and matriculation number when registering. The module is offered in both summer and winter semesters. It lasts about one week and usually takes place in March/April and September/October. Registration deadline is the 5th of March 2024.
The present lab will take place in Oktober 2023 during the period from 18.03.2024 to 05.04.2024. The preliminary meeting for this will be held online and is mandatory for participation (Date to be announced). Access data for the StudIP event can be obtained from David Lammers.

Dates/Groups:
The period of the currently planned three internship groups (5 lab days each) is marked out as follows (subject to changes):
Group 1: 18.03.-20.03. & 27.03.-28.03.
Group 2: 20.03.-22.03. & 02.04.-03.04.
Group 3: 25.03.-27.03. & 04.04.-05.04.
In each semester there are 12 places (3 groups with 4 persons each) available for students. In case of a higher number of registrations, places are allocated according to the semester of study, with preference given to higher semesters.
