Micrometeorological measurements, such as those using the eddy covariance method, have shown that extensive green roofs can absorb and store CO2. However, the eddy covariance method is only applicable to very large green roofs. This study investigated the extent to which alternative measurement methods, such as soil and leaf chambers, provide representative data that can be scaled to the magnitude of the eddy covariance data. To this end, we conducted simultaneous measurements at the roof, plant, and leaf levels. These measurements showed that very warm and dry conditions can lead to distinct differences between the measurement methods.
