The Institute for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) was founded in 1996 and was renamed the Institute for Electromagnetic Compatibility and On-Board Power Systems on July 1, 2026. Professor Achim Enders was appointed as a university professor in 1996 and held the Chair of EMC until his death in 2024. His outstanding research in the field of EMC led, among other things, to new measurement methods for electromagnetic fields and to new high-current-capacity filters. In particular, he had a major impact on the aviation sector through innovative immunity tests conducted in passenger aircraft.
Professor Enders was not only a leading scientist in the field of EMC, but also a respected expert in the Radiation Protection Commission of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, where he was a member since 2014 and deputy chairman since 2019. In addition, he has chaired the Research Advisory Board of the Research Center for Electropathology since 2005.
In his friendly and approachable manner, he gave professional advice and personal encouragement to employees until the end, helping them to find their own way. As a dedicated lecturer in the field of electromagnetic field theory, he will be fondly remembered by many generations of students at TU Braunschweig for his ability to explain complex relationships in an understandable way.
We are grateful for his commitment to the benefit of TU Braunschweig and will always honor his memory.
