As a civil servant in the higher foreign service, you help shape and implement German foreign and European policy.

  • Target group: Students of all semesters and disciplines, as well as doctoral candidates and graduates in the early stages of their careers.
  • Language: German

Professional life in the diplomatic service is characterized by constant rotation: every three to four years, you will alternate between the headquarters in Berlin/Bonn and the 230 German missions abroad around the world, where you will perform tasks in the areas of politics, economics and development, culture, press and media, legal and consular affairs, and protocol. You will observe and analyze political, economic, and social developments and take on personnel management and management responsibilities from the outset.

The Federal Foreign Office represents Germany around the world. It is responsible for maintaining relations with other countries and safeguarding German interests in the EU and international organizations. It shapes globalization and assumes responsibility for solving international challenges. It also provides services to citizens and promotes international exchange with actors from business, culture, media, science, and other fields. It supports parliamentarians and government representatives in their international contacts.
