Mediating Rivers and Rural Landscapes at Museum für Photographie

On 15 April 2025, students from Dr. Stefanie John’s Master’s course “Teaching Climate Change Literature and Media” visited the exhibition “Kulturlandschaften Wasser” at Museum für Photographie.

The exhibition presents work from the collection of Braunschweigische Landschaft e.V., including the winning entries from a 2024 photography competition on the theme of water. We explored contemporary photographers’ take on Braunschweig’s rural surroundings, a countryside predominantly shaped by agriculture and the legacy of the coal industry. We were particularly intrigued by Jette Held’s winning entry “Okerstücke” (2024). Held used photograms to create a ‘self-portrait’ of the river Oker. In conversation with our tour guide Frankziska Habelt, we also learned about the gallery’s workshops for children and schools, which we hope will inspire future collaborations with TUBS graduates.
