Initial Situation and Problem
- In 2004 freight transport was responsible for 8% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions - one major cause of global warming.
 - Governments develop new instruments to reduce CO2 emissions in freight transport.
 - The “Greenness” of products becomes major source of differentiation.

Objective and Approach
- Evaluation of measures to reduce CO2 emissions in the automotive supply chain with regard to: Network planning, Modal split, Inventory management.
 - Understandig the causes of CO2 emissions in logistics operations (inbound/outbound).
 - Identification of relevant logistics processes.
 - Analysis of the qualitative cause and effect relations.
 - Identification of the measures to reduce CO2 emissions.
 - Development of a quantitative model for CO2 emission.
 - Validation based on empirical data.
 - Provision of recommendations regarding structural and operational changes within logistics operations.
