After completing his doctorate at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at TU Braunschweig, Sigurd Bauerecker worked for ten years as a group leader at the Helmholtz Institute in Geesthacht before returning to Braunschweig to complete his habilitation. In 2016, with funding from the Heisenberg Programme of the German Research Foundation, he was appointed professor of physical chemistry and has since headed the Nanoparticles working group. His research focused on the spectroscopic investigation of molecules in the gas phase as well as aerosol particles and droplets.
He played a key role in shaping the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry in the areas of research, teaching and internationalisation, and will be greatly missed. We are grateful for his work on behalf of TU Braunschweig and will honour his memory.
