Organization

In the winter term of 2026/27, the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science offers a seminar on Theoretical Computer Science.

• Weekly talks begin on TBA.
• The kickoff meeting will take place on 2026/10/28 at 3:00 p.m. in IZ 358.
• To register for this seminar, follow the instructions for the central seminar registration procedure (computer science, data science). For a binding registration, you will have to attend the kickoff meeting.
• To fully register for the seminar, you have to sign a document until 02.11.2026. You can do so during the kickoff meeting or at our secretariat. In the latter case, please make an appointment with our secretary Andrea Soleinsky (a.soleinsky@tu-bs.de).
• We offer topics for at most 10 students of computer science (Bachelor's or Master's) and at most 10 students of data science (Master's).
• Please contact Natalia Gacek and/or René Maseli for questions regarding the seminar's organization.

Requirements

You will have to

• prepare and give a talk of 30 minutes (including questions) during the lecture period.
• write a seminar paper in English or German, of maximal 10 pages (excluding references) using the acmart LaTeX style using the "acmsmall" version.
• hand in a preliminary version of your paper, that will be peer reviewed by another student. Consequently, you will recieve a paper from another student that you will have to review.

The use of generative AI tools is forbidden for both the creation of your seminar paper and the creation of your talk.

Supervision

Each seminar topic is assigned a member of the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science as advisor. In case you have questions, you can contact them. There will be regular meetings with your advisor, in particular before you hand in the paper and before you give the presentation.
