Welcome Freshmen!

After you have successfully enrolled, you will receive a welcome letter from us in good time before the start of the semester with the relevant initial information for the start of your studies. An e-mail address is automatically set up for all TU Braunschweig students.

The login for the e-mail-account is done with the y-number (GITZ user ID) and the corresponding password. You will receive your y-number together with your enrolment documents. Students who are enrolled at the TU Braunschweig for the first time must activate their y-number on the website of the Gauß-IT-Zentrum under the heading Self-Service – Erstsemester.

Please note: For contacting the examination office and the deans of studies, please use your ...@tu-braunschweig.de-email-adress. Employees of TU Braunschweig are instructed to communicate with students via the TU-email-address only (see also matriculation regulations § 3 (2)).

Lectures at TU Braunschweig will start for the winter semester 2025/26 on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. We look forward to welcoming you to our faculty!

In the various maths pre-courses, you will refresh and expand important mathematical school knowledge. You can also take the opportunity to get to know your fellow students before the start of the semester and attend the orientation programmes together.

The EITP student council represents your interests as a student in various university policy committees and organises various orientation and welcome events. Would you like some tips or do you have any questions about studying? Then it is best to contact the dedicated students directly.

Depending on what you are studying, either the EIT department or the Physics department is responsible for you. Further information can be found at:

At the start of lectures, you will be invited to a first mentor meeting by a professor in your subject via email.

Timetables will be published gradually on the website of the respective subject.

TUconnect is the university portal at TU Braunschweig for students, lecturers and staff. Here you can register for and deregister from exams, create study certificates and much more. You can log in with your y-number (GITZ user ID) and the corresponding password. You will receive your y-number together with your enrolment documents. At the bottom right you can change the language if required.

Stud.IP is the learning management system of the TU Braunschweig. Students can create their timetable here, register for courses, download teaching materials, set up study groups and much more. You can log in to Stud.IP with your y-number (= Username) and the corresponding password.

At the beginning of a new semester, there are a number of questions regarding the (first) use of Stud.IP. You can find a brief overview of the most important information on the start of the semester for students.

We recommend to register for the study group of your degree programme on the Stud.IP platform. This will ensure that you get any important information. You can find the appropriate study group for your subject by entering "Studiengang ..." in the search field in Stud.IP.

Dear students,

at the beginning of the summer semester 2020, the Project Group Teaching and Media Education, the University Library and the AStA organised a webinar for students, which covered the following topics:

• Presentation of BigBlueButton, this tool will be used to a large extent for the implementation of digital courses.
• Input on important points in Stud.IP for the semester
• The University Library presents its current offers for literature supply
• The AStA will address the topics of financing, requirements for examinations and teaching

The employees of the TU Braunschweig are instructed to communicate with the students via the TU email address without exception (see also §3 Para. 2 of the matriculation regulations).

The central VPN service of the TU Braunschweig enables every member of the TU Braunschweig to use certain networks and services of the TU Braunschweig on the move and from home via "Virtual Private Network" (VPN).
