Who are you and what is your research topic?

I’m an aerospace engineer specializing in active load alleviation and active flutter suppression for energy-efficient aircraft.

 

Which research question are you working on?

The main goal of my research is to identify effective strategies to mitigate adverse interactions of flight control functions. This research entails an investigation into rigid body flight laws, maneuver load alleviation, gust load alleviation, and flutter suppression systems, utilizing the SE²A medium-range aircraft as the application.

 

What inspires you about your research?

Being an engineer, I strive to solve meaningful technical challenges. The aviation sector is currently facing such a challenge: the emissions of current aircraft are not sustainable and, for the foreseeable future, fast long-distance transport can only be realized cost-effectively using airplanes, thereby motivating the development of energy-efficient aircraft.

 

Why is your topic relevant to the future of aviation?

Application of active load reduction and active flutter suppression techniques enables the construction of a lighter wing and/or a wing with an increased aspect ratio, thus enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency and advancing the pursuit of low-emission aviation.

 

What is special about participating in the interdisciplinary research network SE²A?

Being an active member of the research network exposes me to diverse subjects such as electrical/chemical engineering, logistics, human factors, law, and noise research, broadening my expertise within the aviation domain. The exchange also supports innovative and interdisciplinary thinking and hence benefits the sustainable aviation research.
