My name is Arsham Asgari. I graduated with a Master's in Electrical Power Engineering from Leibniz University Hannover. After working in the industry on the drivetrain of electrical machines, I decided to pursue my passion and deepen my knowledge in this field by starting my PhD at TU Braunschweig. My research focuses on developing electrical machines for electrified aircraft.
My research focuses on designing highly reliable electrical machines. To achieve this, electromagnetic and thermal analyses must be conducted. Following this, a lifetime model will be developed to estimate the lifespan, enabling a parameter study to extend the lifetime of the electrical machines.
Each designed airplane, depending on its range and passenger capacity, requires a unique electrical machine that considers all operational scenarios. Electrical machines are not only susceptible to undesirable electrical effects but also to overheating and mechanical damage. All these aspects must be thoroughly investigated for each aircraft in the future of electrified aviation.
Being involved in an interdisciplinary project gives me the opportunity to learn from other PhD students in their respective fields and to broaden my perspective when designing electrical machines. It also helps me remain realistic and set appropriate boundary conditions for my system.
