Studying with disabilities or chronic illnesses

The representative for the interests of students with disabilities or chronic diseases is the central contact point of the TU Braunschweig for prospective students, applicants, students and doctoral candidates (who are not part of the scientific staff) with long-lasting or permanent impairments (eg chronic somatic or mental illness, impairment of hearing, vision, speech, posture and musculoskeletal system as well as 'dys'abilities and autism spectrum disorders).

We advise and assist you in all issues related to orientation, application and studies.

We also gladly provide in-house or external offices with information and advice on the subject of "studying with impairments at the Technische Universität Braunschweig".

We offer information, advice and support services for

  • Prospective students,
  • Students
  • Doctoral candidates (who are not part of the scientific staff),

with prolonged or permanent health problems, in particular

  • Chronic somatic or mental illnesses
  • Hearing, vision, speech and movement impairments
  • 'Dys'abilities and autism spectrum disorders

We inform, advise and support you in all study-related concerns that are connected to your impairment.

  • Preparation for academic studies
  • Adaptation during the course of the study, workload, course and examination conditions by so-called "disadvantage compensation"
  • Exit and re-entry in phases of illness during studies
  • Dealing with the impairment in the university context (for example disclosure to students and lecturers/tutors)
  • Accessibility, usability and locating of buildings and spaces
  • Access to further information
  • Referral of contact persons

We also advise you in conflicts with lecturers/tutors or other students that are related to your impairment.
