Joint central organisation

The Coastal Research Centre (FZK) in Hannover is a joint central organisation of the Leibniz Universität Hannover and the Technische Universität Braunschweig to perform research in coastal engineering.
The following institutes are partners of FZK: the Leichtweiß-Institute, Department of "Hydromechanics and Coastal Engineering", the Institute for Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics, both at TU Braunschweig and the Ludwig-Franzius-Institute and the Institute of Fluid Mechanics at the Universität Hannover.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Nils Goseberg as the head of our department is a member of the FZK directorate and currently the Managing Director of the FZK.


Large Wave Flume (GWK)

The Large Wave Flume (GWK) in Hannover is one of the largest wave flumes in the world and has a length of 310 m, a width of 5 m and a depth of 7 m. The maximum wave height for regular waves is about 2.5 m and for random waves about 2.0.
