Wolfgang Bziuk received the Dipl.-Ing. and PH.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Braunschweig, Germany. In 1983, he was granted a scholarship from "Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes". In 1986 he joined the Institute for Communication Systems and since 2000 he has been with the Institute of Computer and Network Engineering. He has been involved in the development of computer aided engineering tools for packet switched networks and has further worked in the area of traffic engineering, network planning and optimization, performance evaluation, simulation of broadband networks and mobility modelling for wireless networks. Further research interest include the development of Markovian models for the performance evaluation of elastic optical networks (EONs) and the application of Network Coding to reliable and secure transmission systems. In the area of Network Function Virtualization his current research interest is focused on the modeling and optimization of reliable service function chains.
