Mittelstand 4.0 – Expert-Learning-Factory for digitalization

Motivation and Objective

More than 99 % of all companies in in the state of Lower-Saxony are small and medium sized enterprises (SME, ≤ 250 employees). This is results in 69 % employment content and is above the nationwide average. With 11 % employment content is the manufacturing industry defining for the region. Especially the manufacturing industry is foreseen to benefit hugely from the digital transition into the “Industry 4.0”. This transition is for large-sized companies easier due to their structure and ability to evaluate potential benefits. This is mostly reasoned by limited possibilities to evaluate the current marked situation of digitalization opportunities of SME.

With this reasoning, the BMWi funded project “Mittelstand 4.0 – mit uns digital!” (=”SME 4.0 – with us digital”) was established. Basics regarding Industry 4.0 for SME are taught in a “General-Learning-Factory”, specific topics are educated in multiple “Expert-Learning-Factories” around Lower-Saxony. Besides the one or two days long workshops within Learning-Factories, the centre “mit uns digital!” offers consulting sessions, information events and the realization of Industry 4.0 projects. All offers from the centre are free of costs for SME.

The IWF is within the competence centre the Expert-Learning-Factory for energy transparency in manufacturing and offers workshops until the end of 2018 quarterly. Additionally the IWF is consulting SME from the manufacturing industry regarding digitalization questions and Industry 4.0.
