The GALILEO1 System opens the door for safety related applications in transportation [9]. It will be the first system that can meet the requirements of all different modes of transportation. Each transportation mode exhibits specific regulations and requirements that have to be met. On the other hand, towards the institution of a certification process, a reference platform is an essential step to be made. Thus, this paper shows a concept for two hardware platforms (one for road traffic and one for rail transportation) that can be seen as reference platforms for the quantification and investigation of new positioning systems.
