This paper deals with the design process for automation systems. A reference model based on different aspects of cognition and knowledge representation will be introduced which allows to evaluate system specification languages. Using the model as a reference for natural speech analysis leads to an integrated systems design. Furthermore the integration of Artificial Intelligence aspects in Systems Specifications is proposed.
