This paper deals with design process for automation systems. Getting started grom different aspects of cognition and knowledge representation the consequences for the system design processs will be discussed. Using Petri Nets as descritpion language for modeling and even as a means of knowledge representation during the whole technical design process a high degree of automation from the first ideas to physical implementation is possible
