Bachelors courses

Bachelors courses at TU Braunschweig take 6 semesters. You first acquire basic knowledge within your field of study and become acquainted with scientific work methods. In the further course of your studies, you have the opportunity to specialise in certain areas. The courses end with a final project or thesis, leading to the award of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc), depending on the field of study.

Masters courses

In a Masters course, you can either specialise in the subject that you studied at undergraduate level or you can choose a related subject area that complements your previous qualifications. Masters courses are usually research focused. You are expected to work independently and can choose from a broad range of specialisations. Masters courses at TU Braunschweig usually last 4 semesters and end with a final project or thesis leading to the award of a Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc) or Master of Education (MEd).

Staatsexamen

The Staatsexamen is a German university degree at Masters level. It is awarded in professional fields that are subject to specific government control, e.g. pharmacy and food chemistry. These degree courses combine undergraduate and graduate studies. The standard period of study is 10 semesters.

Doctorate (PhD)

A doctorate can be obtained in any of the fields of study offered at TU Braunschweig. There are a few special courses for doctoral students, although a doctorate in Germany usually means conducting an individual research project under the guidance of a professor. The time required to complete a doctoral degree generally ranges from 3 to 5 years, depending on the field of research and the successful progress of the research work.
