PLANNING AND DESIGN OF HEALTHCARE FACILITIES SoSe 2020

Capacity:
20 vacancies (open to master and bachelor students from architecture and sustainable design)

Topic:
The seminar will introduce students to the concepts of planning and design of healthcare facilities, adopting specific methodologies for teaching the design of complex buildings. We will use for the seminar programme case studies (hospitals) from resource-limited settings and armed conflict areas, such as Haiti and Afghanistan among others. The methodology of the seminar intends to enhance students’ knowledge for the analyse of the design of hospitals and to make students capable to provide informed design decisions for healthcare facilities projects. In addition to the study of the historic background of the hospital's development until the understanding of the concepts of the "hospital of the future", as a final task, students have to develop a design proposal to improve one hospital (a selected case study) overall functionality and to develop a design proposal for a new surgical department.

The seminar is a cooperation between EPOS Health Management and TU BS IIKE.

• Kickoff meeting: ?

The seminar will be held by Guilherme COELHO, Architect and Senior Consultant for Healthcare Infrastructure.
