TU BRAUNSCHWEIG

Portrait Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Hecker » Research data is an increasingly important resource for research. The presidency of the TU Braunschweig supports the researchers in handling these data responsibly and at the same time encourages the scientists to publish them openly, if possible. «

Managing Research Data Responsibly

Research data is generated in the course of scientific research projects: It is both the basis and the result of scientific work. The responsible handling of collected research data and the software that generates it serves the goal of traceability and verifiability of research.

The Technische Universität Braunschweig supports its scientists in the implementation of quality-conscious data management in the sense of ensuring good scientific practice and promoting greater transparency in their research. In its meeting on 13 December 2017, the Senate of the TU Braunschweig approved Guidelines for the Handling of Research Data at the Technische Universität Braunschweig. In line with the Guidelines on Open Access of the TU Braunschweig, researchers are recommended to make their research data accessible for subsequent use as far as possible.

Research Data Services for Researchers

On the basis of the Principles of Good Scientific Practice, researchers bear the responsibility for the secure storage of research data. We can support you in this. The TUBS.researchdata - Serviced Center Research Data Management of the Technische Universität Braunschweig is a cooperation of the Research Service and the EU University Office, the CIO, the Gauss IT Centre and the University Library.

In addition, the publication of research data is often necessary because it is required for journal articles or by funding agencies. Do you also support the idea of "Open Science" through the open accessibility of your research data? However, not all research data can or may be made freely available. Nonetheless, it is possible to be FAIR. We will be happy to give you advice.

We offer a wide range of consulting, training and information services and are currently setting up an institutional data repository to supplement existing IT services. A test version of an online tool that supports you in creating data management plans adapted to various research funding agencies is already available. Contact us if you would like to become a pilot user!

We advise and support you with your research data …

  • in the context of third-party funding applications, doctoral projects or other projects.
  • through continuing education - also subject-specific, e.g. for research training groups and joint projects.
  • in practical research data management and legal issues.
  • in the development of data management plans.
  • on metadata standards and data formats.
  • on questions of the storage and archiving of research data.
  • with the publication of research data.

We are at your disposal for individual initial discussions. Contact us at forschungsdaten@tu-braunschweig.de!
