Where can I publish Open Access?
In principle you can publish Open Access in journals, books and repositories. To get an overview, the following platforms are available:
Does Open Access increase the visibility of my publications?
According to recent studies, the visibility of freely accessible publications is higher compared to those that are fee-based. The visibility is measured by the citation frequency. The citation frequency is also a measurement in the calculation of the Journal Impact Factor (JIF). It provides information on the quantity of citations of articles published in a journal annually. Analogue to studies on citation frequency, some Open Access Journals already have a higher Impact Factor than similar subscription-based journals in various disciplines.
What is the difference between Open Access Gold and Open Access Green?
Open Access Gold is the primary publication in a commercial Open Access Journal. The journal is financed by Article Processing Charges (APCs), which are paid by the authors. Under certain conditions APCs can be funded by the Publication Fund of TU Braunschweig. Further information can be found in the menu entry TU Publication Fund.
Open Access Green is the right of self archiving of an already published article on your institutional or subject-specific repository. Digital Library is the institutional repository of TU Braunschweig. You can find further information in the menu entry Self Archiving.
What funding opportunities are offered?
TU Publication Fund provides financial support for the publication of articles in Open Access Journals, Open Access Proceedings, articles / chapters in Open Access Volumes and Open Access Monographs. The conditions of funding can be found in the menu entry TU Publication Fund.
Furthermore, TU Braunschweig participates in the DEAL agreements with SpringerNature and Wiley and also participates in discount or membership programs with other publishers. Detailed information on this can be found in the menu entry Special Conditions of Selected Publishers.
How can I identify 'predatory journals' or 'fake journals'?
