Do I have to wait until the article is accepted by the publisher before I can apply for the publication fund? No. Applications can be submitted at any time, even if the article will not be published.
Can I submit an application if the article has already published? Yes, but only in the same calendar year of publishing. Applications from a previous calendar year can unfortunately no longer be considered.
How long does it take to check my application? We will check your application as soon as possible. You will receive a response within two working day by e-mail.
How can I recognize a Predatory Journal ( aka Fake Journal)? Sometimes it is not so easy to recognize a predatory journal. Meanwhile there are some helpful Internet ressources like Think!Check!Submit!. In case you are in doubt do not hesitate to us: openaccess(at)tu-braunschweig.de.
Does the journal in which I want to publish have to be listed in DOAJ? No, but if a journal is listed in DOAJ you can be sure that usually all funding requirements are fulfilled. However, there are also eligible journals which are not listed in the DOAJ. As soon as your application has been received we will check the requirements.
Why are publications in hybrid journals not funded? Publishing in hybrid journals is excluded from DFG supported funds. It is intended to prevent the so-called Double-Dipping of publishers. Only particular articles are free accessible in hybrid journals. Publishers earn money through the subscription of a journal e.g. paid by a library and additionally, via Article Processing Charges (APC) paid by the author or their institution.
How can I identify a hybrid journal? If publishing an article open access is only one of several options it is probably a hybrid journal (e.g. Springer Open Choice).
What happens if APCs exceed EUR 2,000? We will send you a letter containing the requirements of the DFG funding. You can use this letter to negotiate with the publisher.
Why are costs over 2,000 EUR not funded? Experience shows that high APC can be successfully negotiated below EUR 2,000 incl. VAT, with reference to the DFG's funding limit. Publishers would become less willing to grant discounts if higher APCs were paid without objection. For this reason, invoices over EUR 2,000 incl. VAT will not be paid – not even pro rata - by the Publication Fund.
How do I know whether VAT is already included or not? On foreign invoices and on publishers websites VAT is normally not included. Therefore, please add the VAT of 19% on top of your invoice. To avoid the price restriction of the publication fund make sure that the net amount is under EUR 1,680.
What should the billing address look like for direct payment? Does the TU Braunschweig have to be indicated as first on the invoice? Yes, TU Braunschweig must be listed first on the invoice. An institute or an employee may not be named before the TU Braunschweig! Incorrect labeled invoices will not be accepted by the central invoice office.
TU Braunschweig Institutsname Prof. M Mustermann Musterstraße 1 38106 Braunschweig
What do I have to pay attention to if I make an advance payment privately? Eine Kostenerstattung erfolgt von der Universitätsbibliothek nur ans Institut. The University Library will only reimburse the costs to your institute. We do not refund to private accounts. In this case, please contact your institute.
The institute has already paid the invoice. How should I deal with it? You can use the form „Umbuchungsanordnung zwischen zwei Einrichtungen“, which is available on the Information Portal of the TU Braunschweig. The upper part has to be completed and signed by the institute. Please send the form together with a „SAP Belegjournal“ of the posting by in-house mail to "Universitätsbibliothek - Publikationsfonds" and a copy of the publisher’s invoice (by in-house mail or as a scan to openaccess(at)tu-braunschweig.de).
What happens if I have third-party funds available? Third-party funds must be spent firstly and the APCs have to be under EUR 2,000 incl. VAT. In this case, payment is only possible via a rebooking request (form is available on the Information Portal of the TU Braunschweig.
