To contain COVID-19, numerous regulations have been in place since March 2020, which also apply to Braunschweig University Library:
For the state of Lower Saxony in general, the "Lower Saxony Ordinance on infection-protective measures against the spread of the corona virus" is binding, which among other things formulates distance and hygiene requirements. The ordinance is updated in part at weekly intervals; the valid version can be found at https://www.niedersachsen.de/Coronavirus/vorschriften-der-landesregierung-185856.html. Further requirements, including the interpretation of the regulation, by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture must also be observed. This results, for example, in a reduced number of available learning places in our reading rooms as well as the obligation to document the contact details of users of the reading rooms.
Further restrictions result from the SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety standard. Due to the protection of our employees, the full personnel capacity is not available on site, which has an impact on opening hours.
Directly influencing our opening hours is also the requirement of the TU Braunschweig's Kristenstab that full-time employees of the University Library must be present at all times during opening hours. This eliminates the possibility of working outside core working hours with student assistants and the security guard.
The following security measures are taken for visitors:
Distance markings for waiting areas and for set up learning places
Limitation of waiting persons in the building to a maximum of five at a distance of 2m from each other (lending desk and open access)
Admission controls and monitoring of the clearance rules
Hand disinfectant dispenser
Cleaning utensils for devices
Prohibition of access to persons with symptoms of illness
For media that are not digitally available, you can submit an acquisition proposal. For media that are available in printed form but cannot be borrowed at present, we are considering the acquisition as an e-book.
The return of media can be done for all users. Please note our opening hours from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00 and outside these opening hours you can return media via our media return box outside the library.
Media ordered online will be ready for you to pick up the following business day and can be picked up within one week from the time of ordering. Orders received on Sundays are ready for collection on Tuesdays when the lending desk opens at 10 am.
Can/must I extend media?
Please check your library-account regularly.
All borrowed media can be extended indefinitely via your online user account.
I have reserved books. Will the reservation remain?
Existing reservations for borrowed media are retained.
Borrowed items will be available for you until one week after the library reopens.
In which form is the library open?
Learning places for TU members: Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 16:00
Lending desk: Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:00.
Due to the infection control and hygiene measures, a reduced number of employees is working in the public area of the University Library.
Reminders for UB's own stocks were reinstated on Monday, 1.6.20.
Please remember to return your media in good time, as they will be taken back with a delay of about 24 hours for reasons of hygiene.
We kindly ask you to settle open claims preferably by bank transfer.
Please note: Due to the book quarantine of 24 hours, media returned without contact will only be processed the next day between 15:00 hrs and 17:00 clock booked from your user account. Please check your user account from 17:00 hrs the day after the delivery before making any queries. If reminders have been issued despite the fact that the reminder was submitted on time (overlapping of automatic reminder dispatch and return), they will be cancelled.
I would like to hand in my dissertation. How can I do this?

I attended a course with UB participation. Can I still pick up my vouchers at the UB information desk?
No, unfortunately this is not possible during the prescribed closing time of the University Library. In urgent cases you can reach us via ub-informationskompetenz(at)tu-braunschweig.de. We will send the certificate to the examination office or confirm the participation by email.
